Alexander Jacoby : Film festivals, How Japan is viewed from afar

From The Japan Times (03.04.2008). — "The real Japan" can not be explored into commercial success movies and classical movies but movies screened in film festivals, the author claims, pointing out Furuyama Tomoyuki, Yamashita Nobuhiro, and Hiroki Ryuichi.

I don't know much about Mr. Jacoby. His book, Critical Handbook of Japanese Film Directors : From the Silent Era to the Present Day will be out by Stone Bridge Press in May.
